Top places to visit in Italy?

Let's start with a list of the main places to visit in Italy that include historic towns and villages: Rome, Florence, Venice, Naples, Pompei, Positano, Sorrento, Capri, Palermo, Agrigento, Milan, Turin, Genoa, Verona, Padua, Vicenza, Bologna, Ravenna, Siena, Pisa, Lucca, Assisi, San Gimignano, Orvieto, Gubbio, Spoleto, Perugia, Volterra, Fiesole just to name some of them.

Every town and village offer historic buildings, museums or archaeological sites.

For a 2 weeks Italy tour, you could arrive in Rome and stay there the first 3-4 days without the need for a car yet.

Then, depends of the form of transportation you choose, you can spend 7-8 days in Tuscany visiting Florence and the Chianti wine region, Siena, Lucca, San Gimignano and Umbria with Assisi, Orvieto Spoleto and Gubbio.

Venice in the north east deserve a visit with its Canals and romantic gondola rides before going back to Rome and be ready for your flight home. Consider the option to fly back home from Venice Airport, it will save you the long journey between Venice and Rome.

Two weeks are good to have a taste of Italy, and probably you would like to stay more or come back for a longer, deeper visit.
